Southern Storage Units

Project Overview: Complete site development for an 8-acre storage facility that became a landmark project for iHawl’s technological implementation and problem-solving approach. This project involved extensive earthwork engineering with a 37-foot deep excavation, precise material management, and comprehensive site development. The project demonstrated our ability to find innovative solutions that dramatically reduced costs while maintaining high quality and efficiency.

Services Provided:

  • Comprehensive earthwork
  • Utility installation

Challenge & Solution: Instead of importing fill material and paying to dispose of unsuitable soil, our team conducted soil testing that confirmed the site’s soil beneath the topsoil was suitable for structural fill. We excavated a 37-foot deep retention pond, using the suitable material to build the facility pads while returning unsuitable materials to the pond area.

Innovation & Technology: We implemented advanced tracking technology to monitor on-site equipment efficiency, resulting in moving 67,000 cubic yards of material in just two weeks — approximately over 5,000 cubic yards per day. with our equipment fleet.

Results:

  • Saved the owner approximately $500,000 in material costs
  • Established a template for our project approach, including detailed tracking of resources
  • Implemented improved planning processes, including pre-construction briefings with foremen using detailed cut/fill maps
  • Earned additional scopes of work from the impressed client, who expanded our contract to include utilities, paving, and topsoil
